Filmed while on a bicycle tour on the Pacific Coast Highway in 2019, Chain of Good Will explores the world of bike touring, community, kindness and slower paced adventures. Edited as the UK emerges from pandemic lockdown the film provides a nostalgic snapshot of the last summer of carefree travel.

This film started out as an attempt to simply document a journey that was completely new to me. Over the course of the month long trip and then the next 2 years of not having the time to edit the footage the idea transformed and eventually at the end of the summer of 2021 “Chain of Good Will” was born.

This project has reinforced my love for documentary, every single person I interviewed had fascinating stories of their own, and I am now really excited for my upcoming documentary projects.

Filming while on the road was an interesting challenge, partly due to the added space and weight required by equipment. All the footage was captured on my Sony a6500 with my Sony 35mm f/1.8 lens, a GoPro Hero 8 Black and my Pixel 3a.

This project would never have happened had I not been inspired to take this trip by Ben, Julia and Caleb. I will forever be indebted to all my hosts for all the kindness they showed me.

This film largely ended up being about the Warmshowers community (https://www.warmshowers.org/) due to the high density of wonderful, interesting and helpful people. If you ever feel like becoming a host and getting to hear some incredible stories, or are heading out on a bicycle tour, definitely check them out!

Warmshowers Hosts: Neal Perrine, Anita Rose, Carolyn Gravatt-Bowles, Walt Cannon, Deb Slivinsky, Carisse Geronimo, Jim Allen, Fran Allen. (Not featured: Erik Schmidt and Steve Bronstein.)

This Girl Can 2017

A recurring theme in my work is promoting women in sport, specifically adventure sport. This project was the start of that with the opportunity to script a promotional video to celebrate lots of adventurous sports that female students were involved with at The University of Sheffield. The hard work was rewarded when 2 years later it was selected for screening at Sheffield Adventure Film Festival. With a tight production schedule fitted around the teams university courses this was a great result!
